Executive skills are the pre-frontal cortex capacities of the brain that manage emotions and direct oneself. They are skills of time management, problem solving, self-awareness, emotional control, organization, prioritization, and more. They oversee a person’s life and affect every area from school to career to relationships. Like a CEO directing his company, the frontal lobes of our brains guide, problem-solve, and organize our life.
Executive Skills are imperative for student success! They are the foundation on which academic content is built. Weak executive skills (poor time management, poor prioritization skills, low metacognition, poor organization,…), cause students to squander these crucial years of life and disadvantage them in their next seasons of life in their relationships and career. Executive skill weaknesses are among the top reasons students fail out of college.
Absolutely! Skills, like any skill in life, if taught and practiced, can be sharpened and strengthened. Yet, accountability and encouragement are essential in the development of skills and habits (As adults, we know this to be true!).
Tutoring addresses one area of content in one specific subject of school. Coaching teaches skills that apply across the breadth of academic subjects as well as to daily life and relationships.
Like an athletic coach, an academic coach guides, brings accountability and encourages the student, but the student is the primary, active participant creating their own life-vision and goals while implementing and evaluating their own progress.
Coaching is not an event; it is a process. For long-lasting change, humans need consistency over time (short-term success does not usually form habit).
Students process and learn different skills throughout the various seasons of the school year (start of school, midterms, “dole-drum” seasons, finals). Each season provides different opportunities to stretch, practice, and grow skills and character qualities that are the foundation of success in all areas of a person’s life.
The process: students must acknowledge and identify personal difficulties in school or home, brainstorm solutions, implement ideas, evaluate their effectiveness, and amend their solutions to find success. Then they need time, time to turn these successful solutions into skills and habits through encouraging, accountable practice.
Very! That’s why our coaches are vetted to have the highest academic quality, capabilities, and relatability as well as in-depth training. After hiring the top coaches in Austin, we match students to these coaches based on student interviews and assessments and the knowledge of our coaches’ gifts and personalities.

While we recommend student consistency and commitment for at least 6-8 months to achieve results that are effective and long-lasting, we do not believe long-term contracts should keep you with us. We do believe that your positive experience of change along with the best coaches ever will be reason enough to stay!
Our main focus is to teach executive skills, but executive skills are taught and learned through the homework, school assignments, and life experiences of the student. While our coaches are not necessarily content tutors, they are essential in helping students grow their problem solving capacity when a content issues arises, a skill necessary in college and beyond.
